The Windy City Has Nothing On Indiana!

Posted by: Betty | Comments (0)

Chicago may be the Windy City, but Indiana has something the big city doesn’t have! We have “Wind Farms”! And North Central Indiana is home to the first wind farm in Indiana. In fact, Benton County boasts not one, but two wind farms.

You may have seen the windmills along US 31 south of Kokomo, but you haven’t seen anything until you see a “real” wind farm. Take a look…

Benton County wind farm

Awesome!

I will never forget the first time I saw a wind farm… We had just moved to San Diego and were headed north on I-15. All of a sudden we saw these “things” that seemed to be sprouting out of the rolling hills. We had no idea they were, but the beauty and the serenity of miles and miles of these giant “things” stick out of the ground, out in the middle of nowhere was awe-inspiring. Of course, we soon found out they were wind turbines – modern versions of the old-fashioned windmills we had seen as children.

Check out this short video with a close up of a wind turbine in Benton County at Fowler Ridge.

In the not too distant future, I am sure we will have a wind farm in eastern Howard County. There are also plans in the works for a wind farm near the Tipton-Clinton County line. Keep your eyes open for these magnificent windmills!

Kokomo Christmas Lights

Posted by: Betty | Comments (3)

It seems a lot of people don’t like the Christmas light display around the court house in downtown Kokomo. In fact several people have written to the Kokomo Tribune with their gripes about the display being too secular.

Well, Kokomo resident Duncan McRae-Spencer puts it all in perspective in this informative video. He explains  how some of the “non-traditional” displays actually are of a biblical nature. Take a look:

Now, do you view our Kokomo Christmas lights in a whole new way? Please let us know in the comment section!

Kokomo Celebrates National Night Out

Posted by: Betty | Comments (0)

Stomp Out Crime in Kokomo

Lights On Night OutTonight, Wednesday, August 5, is “National Night Out” and Kokomo is going all out to increase awareness about crime in the Kokomo area and how to prevent crime from happening around us.

Residents across the country are asked to spend the evening outside. Lock your doors, turn on your outside lights and spend the evening outside with your neighbors.

Some neighborhoods are even having special events – block parties, games for the children, visits from the police, etc. And for the second year in a row, you can wrap up the evening with a free evening of swimming at the “Bash at the Beach” at Kokomo Beach from 7-9 PM.

Send a message to criminals in our midst! Let them know we are fighting back! Join your neighbors and all of Kokomo by participating in “National Night Out”.
