Hidden Hazard in Kokomo Homes

Posted by: Betty | Comments (0)

With colder temperatures and Kokomo’s first snow fall, winter is upon us. And winter brings with it the dangers you can face when heating your home.

You need to know the symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning and how to protect your family and yourself against it.

Carbon monoxide poisoning symptoms are similar to those of the flu – headache, dizziness and nausea. Because they are similar, many of us confuse the two. The main difference is that with carbon monoxide poisoning, when you leave the house, the symptoms seem to lessen or go away completely. Of course, we all know that with the flu, it doesn’t matter where you are, you still feel miserable.

If you don’t recognize the symptoms and get help soon enough, the results can be fatal. Every year carbon monoxide sends 40,000 Americans to hospital emergency rooms. As this video shows, those who survive are likely to develop and die from heart disease later in life.

Follow these procedures to stay safe in your home…

  1. Don’t use a gas oven to heat your home.
  2. Don’t leave your car running car in the garage.
  3. Have your gas furnace and other appliances serviced every year.
  4. Install carbon monoxide detectors near every bedroom in your home.

Stay safe and enjoy the winter.

Gift Cards Could Be Worthless!

Posted by: Betty | Comments (0)

0306gift-cardsDo you have a gift card you haven’t redeemed?

You may be out of luck trying to use your gift card! Some retailers are facing financial troubles. If they declare bankruptcy, your card may become worthless. (Some already are!)

My sister-in-law in Iowa sent me a copy of a CNN story about this problem. You might want to check it out for yourself.

I’m not a big fan of gift cards, so I rarely buy them – but I do have a couple of them laying around. I think it’s time to find them, dust them off and use them. You might want to do the same.
