The Windy City Has Nothing On Indiana!
Posted by: | CommentsChicago may be the Windy City, but Indiana has something the big city doesn’t have! We have “Wind Farms”! And North Central Indiana is home to the first wind farm in Indiana. In fact, Benton County boasts not one, but two wind farms.
You may have seen the windmills along US 31 south of Kokomo, but you haven’t seen anything until you see a “real” wind farm. Take a look…
Awesome!
I will never forget the first time I saw a wind farm… We had just moved to San Diego and were headed north on I-15. All of a sudden we saw these “things” that seemed to be sprouting out of the rolling hills. We had no idea they were, but the beauty and the serenity of miles and miles of these giant “things” stick out of the ground, out in the middle of nowhere was awe-inspiring. Of course, we soon found out they were wind turbines – modern versions of the old-fashioned windmills we had seen as children.
Check out this short video with a close up of a wind turbine in Benton County at Fowler Ridge.
In the not too distant future, I am sure we will have a wind farm in eastern Howard County. There are also plans in the works for a wind farm near the Tipton-Clinton County line. Keep your eyes open for these magnificent windmills!

What Does the Future Hold for Kokomo?
Posted by: | CommentsI don’t have a crystal ball, so I don’t know what’s going to happen tomorrow, let alone a decade from now in Kokomo or anywhere else in the world. But it seems that back in 1993 AT&T had a crystal ball.
AT&T created a series of “Have you… You will…” ads for TV. I say they must have had a crystal ball, because most of their prediction are right on! Take a look…
In case you are wondering whose voice that is, it’s Tom Selleck. (If you don’t know who that is, ask your mom or dad. Mom’s loved him, dad’s hated him!)

Hidden Hazard in Kokomo Homes
Posted by: | CommentsWith colder temperatures and Kokomo’s first snow fall, winter is upon us. And winter brings with it the dangers you can face when heating your home.
You need to know the symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning and how to protect your family and yourself against it.
Carbon monoxide poisoning symptoms are similar to those of the flu – headache, dizziness and nausea. Because they are similar, many of us confuse the two. The main difference is that with carbon monoxide poisoning, when you leave the house, the symptoms seem to lessen or go away completely. Of course, we all know that with the flu, it doesn’t matter where you are, you still feel miserable.
If you don’t recognize the symptoms and get help soon enough, the results can be fatal. Every year carbon monoxide sends 40,000 Americans to hospital emergency rooms. As this video shows, those who survive are likely to develop and die from heart disease later in life.

Follow these procedures to stay safe in your home…
- Don’t use a gas oven to heat your home.
- Don’t leave your car running car in the garage.
- Have your gas furnace and other appliances serviced every year.
- Install carbon monoxide detectors near every bedroom in your home.
Stay safe and enjoy the winter.

From My Front Porch – December 7, 2009
Posted by: | CommentsWinter has arrived! It may not “officially” be winter until December 21st; but Kokomo’s first snow says it’s winter to me! I woke up to a nice pretty blanket of snow – pretty if I could stay inside! I’m not a winter person, so I greeted the snow with mixed feelings…
The first snow is really pretty and it usually me helps get into the Christmas Spirit. But I knew I had to drive to Peru this morning to take pictures of a house I’m listing for sale. (It didn’t help any when my husband called and advised me that there was ice under all that pretty stuff.)
But “you gotta do what you gotta do”! So I gingerly made my way into town and headed north to Peru.
Once in Peru I had to pick-up the key at another real estate office, go to Ace Hardware to get another key made and head for the house. Luckily, Peru didn’t have much snow; because the house is north of town on a very “windy” road. I finally found the house and much to my chagrin, I couldn’t get in! The storm door was locked!
After walking around the house to see if there was another way to get in and after making several phone calls, I gave up. I made my way back to Kokomo and slipped and slid my way around the northside of town previewing some houses for an out-of-state client. When I got home this afternoon, I could once again enjoy that pretty blanket of snow!
Note: Have you dreamed of living in the mountains? This place is probably the closest we have to a mountain atmosphere in Indiana. Watch for details or give me a call and I’ll fill you in!
