Attention Kokomo Homeowners – Deed Scam!

By Betty

Kokomo Homeowners – Don’t Be Scammed!

This scam rears its head every so often. Don’t be duped into paying big money for something you can get for a very reasonable fee at the county courthouse.

In today’s edition of RISMedia, a real estate industry publication, there was an alert from the Tucson Association of REALTORS about a scam aimed at homeowners across the country.

A national company has been sending letters to homeowners about the importance of having a certified copy of the deed to their house in their household records. They will provide this important document to you for a fee, in this case for $89.95.

It is important for you to have a copy of your deed for your records; BUT, you certainly don’t need to pay this company to obtain the deed and you don’t have to pay almost $90 for it!

If you check your records, you may have gotten a certified deed from the title company that did your closing. If you don’t have a copy, all you have to do is go to the courthouse, pay less than $10 and you have what you need.

This is not a new scam! It’s just rearing it’s head again!

I remember getting a letter from this company seven years ago when we moved to San Diego. Just last spring the Indiana Insurance Commissioner issued an alert to Hoosier homeowners about this scam:

As I said, this isn’t a new scam. It just seems it is rearing its ugly head again!

If you get a letter from this company, I suggest to just file it in the “round” file – aka the trash!

If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to call or email me.
