Want a unique gift or souvenir that’s made in Indiana and reflects our area – Howard, Grant and Miami Counties? Then Oak Hill Winery in Converse is the place to go!

Our son, who lives in San Diego, is getting engaged soon. We are going to California over Christmas and will meet his fiancee’s family for the first time. In fact we will be joining her family for both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day – two different hosting families.

I knew I wanted to get something for hostess gifts, but puzzled over the “what” for a couple of weeks. Then I suddenly thought of Indiana wine! So that is what led to a trip to Converse for some Christmas shopping!

Converse is a small town, about 20 minutes from Kokomo, that straddles the Howard, Miami and Grant County lines.

1209oak-hill-winery2According to their website, the winery is housed in an 1895 carriage house. There is a nice covered patio area on the ground level and a covered porch on the upper level. (Of course, at this time of the year we didn’t dawdle outside.) The tasting room and sales area are upstairs and they have a large selection of wine-related items.

Now for the wines and what really sets them apart as unique gifts are the names! How about a bottle of Kokomo Cider or Peru Peach or Mississinewa White or Hanging Rock? I can’t attest to the taste or quality of the wine because we are both non-drinkers – but I do love the names!

Be sure to visit their website to check their hours and what days they are open, because their business is seasonal.

Note: While you are in Converse, you might want to have a bite to eat at Marty’s Pub.
