Great Eats – Bonge’s Tavern

Great Food – 45 Minutes from Kokomo
I got an interesting email the other day from clients who relocated to Kokomo from Delaware this past summer. They are out and about discovering not only the treasures of Kokomo and Howard County, but all the surrounding areas, too.
Last weekend, Mason and Jennifer found Bonge’s Tavern. Bonge’s (pronounced bon geez) is near Perkinsville, which is just this side of Anderson and about 45 minutes from Kokomo.
Here is Jennifer’s rave review…
…so we went to Bonge’s Tavern in Perkinsville. It was a blast…
They have the best food I have had anywhere in Indiana. It was cold outside and the people were lined up to get their names in. It has a famous Chef from Chicago who owns it and the food was just fabulous.
We showed up at 5 p.m. – just a half hour after it opened and the wait was 2 hours already! Everyone had tables set up in the parking lot with bottles of booze and coolers of beer. I even saw a margarita machine and a bon fire…
The point is you’re supposed to tailgate until your table is ready. BUT… if you forgot your cooler and your friends, you can make new friends on the front porch and the waitress will be happy to get you a beer or glass of wine.
We ate prime rib and duck. It was so delicious. It was served with their famous tomato soup or salad and Jalapeno cornbread. We had sugar cream cake and apple crisp for dessert.
The place is a little dive with 12 tables and a stand up bar. The menu changes daily and is written on a chalkboard behind the bar. It’s a bit pricey but well worth it.
Oh and don’t forget your pen to write on the bathroom wall and a few extra dollars for an “Eat at Bonge’s” or “I Drink Beer at Bonge’s” t-shirt.
It’s very loud but so much fun… We were there for 4 hours and I would go back in a second.
If you’re looking for a quiet romantic evening don’t go to Bonge’s! If you want some fabulous food and good company… GO… Go… go!!!
Thank you Jennifer! And I am sure Bonge’s will appreciate your rave review, too. I can just picture it now… traffic jams from Howard County to Perkinsville!
